I was born on the West Side of Chicago and have lived in the area all of my life. As I was growing up, I did a fair amount of fishing with family and friends, but never really got into shooting sports until I was older. I get a lot of grief around here for my taste in matching firearm accessories.

One of the three AR’s I have is my tuxedo rifle, sort of how like Mr. Lester Polfus (better known as Les Paul) had his tuxedo guitar, the Les Paul Custom.

The Les Paul Custom made its debut in 1954 after the successful Les Paul Goldtop. Les Paul himself suggested his namesake guitar needed a new and classy finish that would go well with a tuxedo on stage. From that point on, the Les Paul Custom Blackback was referred to as the "white tuxedo".

I wouldn’t consider myself a sharpshooter by a long shot.  I would, however, consider myself a pretty skilled and competent shooter.  I started off early in life with a classic Red Ryder which progressed to pellet rifles, which progressed to a .22, which progressed to the various firearms and calibers that I now own.  By far the firearm that I’ve had the most practice with (and fun) is my Ruger 10/22.  She’s been running hot and often for a long time.  With the same rifle, I took one of the best placed (probably luckiest) shots of my life.

No real surprise, but I’m going to kick off 2015 by talking about a Vortex product. What may surprise you is that I am not talking about a new product. I want to talk about the Vortex SPARC (Speed Point Aiming for Rapid Combat) and I don’t necessarily mean the SPARC II. Why am I talking about an old optic that’s been updated and thus discontinued? Because it’s the first Vortex product I ever bought, it is still one of my favorite optics, and it just got mounted on the 9mm AR pistol build I recently completed, that’s why.
